Virtual Private Server
System On Grid Orbits are Virtual Instances (Virtual Private Servers/Machines) run by KVM hypervisor. The Orbits come with multiple Operating System Flavors including different Linux Distros like Centos, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora etc. Orbits also have an option of Unix flavors viz Free BSD and Net BSD. Orbits take full advantage of Intel CPUs VTX features and hardware abstraction. We also have tweaked the Host kernel to provide strong and robust performance.
Features
System On Grid provides the latest state of the art features with high
automation and availability.
Intel KVM
High performance vCPUs and 100% dedicated RAM using KVM with Openstack and powered by Intel CPUs.
CEPH Block Storage
All Orbits come standard and with no additional cost, SSD based Software Defined Block storage replacing the local hard drive for native root partition.
Orbit Scaling
Scale up your Orbit to higher specs on the fly. Pause your Orbit anytime without any restrictions and pay only for the hard drive storage.
Root Access
All Orbits come with root access. No restrictions on how you use your Orbit and have complete control of your hosted Apps.
Rebuild Orbit
Rebuild your Orbit instantaneously with few clicks, either with the same OS or a different OS with similar kernel. (Linux to Linux)
Live Metrics / Monitor
Now access live utilization metrics like CPU and Memory and monitor the state of the backgroud processes directly from the Dashboard.
Photons
One-Click Applications that can be installed in any Linux Orbit directly from Dashboard either during the Orbit creation or later.
Historical Graphs
Access historical performance data for key parameters like CPU, Memory and Network utilization from dashboard for a better insight on capacity planning.
Multiple Distros
Our Orbits come with multiple Linux and Unix based distros and more will be kept on getting added.
Quantam Dashboard
The one panel that replaces all panels with unprecedented and powerful automation, management and monitoring features.
Snapshots and Backups
Take snapshots to archive the machine state and clone it for future replicant Orbits or take a complete backup for that extra sense of security.
ROBUSTMANAGEMENT
How We Do Virtualization?
Orbits come in different sizes and specs and are the basic virtualization enablers. You have an option to choose from 1 vCPU to 8 vCPU (Virtual Centralized Processing Units). All Orbits use 100% hardware based RAM and do not use SWAP files in any format. This means complete and RAW RAM performance. The vCPUs follow equal share based scheduling to avoid noisy neighbors. The scheduling is done by Openstack APIs and is based on time utilization of the CPU Cores. The Openstack scheduling allows you to burst through CPU cycles to utilize idling. But in case multiple vCPUs on the same core are requesting CPU cycles, the scheduler ensures an equal time share. With this the utilization is optimum and gives you an advantage of bursting through the cycles if there is an idle slot available.
ROBUSTMANAGEMENT
The Tale of Block Storage
The native block storage for root partition completely shields you for any type of hardware failure. Hardware failures are unavoidable but it certainly does not mean that the pain cannot be mitigated. The hardware running your Orbits might fail and without any notice, but now with block storage, we can instantaneously move your Orbit to the spare/redundant hardware without losing any data. And in the process we can get your Orbit back online with the same data, IP Address etc. within 5-10 minutes*. This can only be achieved by decoupling the computing and memory component from the hard drive storage component, which is achieved by providing block storage for native root partition.
Compare this to local storage, where a hardware failure will result in a downtime of at least few hours and if the failure was related to the raid controller going crazy, then you can very well say goodbye to your data. Another advantage to this architecture is now your storage has become fluid. You are no longer restricted by your VPS specs but now chose any vCPU and Memory combination with any hard drive storage size of your choice. A day might come that the technology will enable us to shield you against software corruption, till such a day arrives, you can have a piece of mind that the hardware layer is taken care off.
